Maya

Maya is the modelling program we are using on this course. It is a modelling and animation program used widely in the industry to create 3D full motion effects.Incorporating the natural laws of physics to manipulate virtual objects into behaving naturally.

In Maya you can not only create objects or creatures but also particle effects, such as smoke, fire or water. It is a versatile creation tool capable of creating life like videos with an animation control that makes it possible to portray any emotion in animated characters through the manipulation of facial expressions.

At first though we will be using Maya for asset creation. From simple meshes like chests up to a fully rendered character.

I began with some simple objects. Taking a polygonal shape and manipulating its shape to a desired form.

The shapes of the objects I created were achieved by adding edge loops and extrusion, resizing and angling before extruding once again, this is most evident in the desk lamp, which I made from the top of a cylinder( after deleting the rest). I then extruded selected all faces and extruded upwards. Next I extruded again and reshaped with the move tool. Then I extruded once more and resized, with the scale tool, the surface to the size of the stem. From there I extruded upward before extruding and reshaping several times to shape the neck. The final extrusion I pulled to the full length of the shade and resized to give it an umbrella look.
